The Healthy Relationships Program serves family members of those struggling with substance use. Regardless of whether your loved one recognizes the problem, is currently receiving help, has finished a program, has returned to substance use, our program was created to support you.
- We understand that everyone’s situation is unique, and this content is to provide an overall understanding of substance use disorders.
- Addiction makes individuals act out in ways they never usually would if they were sober.
- Everyone has a need for meaning and a sense of purpose in their lives.
- Equally frustrating is the hopelessness loved ones feel in response to substance abuse.
- Family members can also become distant if they’re tired of fighting with their loved one.
- Families can offer a listening ear, practical assistance, and understanding, as their loved one navigates addiction recovery.
The objective of this study is to map the extent, range and nature of evidence available examining family interventions in addictions and identify gaps to guide future research, policy and practice. When family members have healthy family roles and behaviors, it supports and encourages recovery. For example, a spouse can be supportive but firm, which can encourage their partner’s recovery. At the same time, holding the dependent person accountable is also part of healthy family roles.
